Alan Greenspan claims Iraq war was really for oil

AMERICA's elder statesman of finance, Alan Greenspan, has shaken the White House by declaring that the prime motive for the war in Iraq was oil.

In his long-awaited memoir, to be published tomorrow, Greenspan, a Republican whose 18-year tenure as head of the US Federal Reserve was widely admired, will also deliver a stinging critique of President George W Bush's economic policies.

However, it is his view on the motive for the 2003 Iraq invasion that is likely to provoke the most controversy. "I am saddened that it is politically inconvenient to acknowledge what everyone knows: the Iraq war is largely about oil," he says.

Greenspan, 81, is understood to believe that Saddam Hussein posed a threat to the security of oil supplies in the Middle East.

"There is only one force in the nation that can be depended upon to keep the government pure and the governors honest, and that is the people themselves. They alone, if well informed, are capable of preventing the corruption of power, and of restoring the nation to its rightful course if it should go astray. They alone are the safest depository of the ultimate powers of government."

Good cite. There is no way you will get any of the neo-cons on this board to admit this, even if Greenspan says it. But who would know this better than Greenspan?

The first step to reconciliation is to accept what is true. Until we get to that point, we will be hostage to Bush's policies. After we get to that point, only then will we begin to accept that, yep, the President lied, it was all for greed....3000+ American and untold Iraqis died for the sake of the US dollar.

Now we will wait for the Bush propaganda campaign to work up a plan to discredit Greenspan. Any bets as to when it begins?

Actually, the threat Saddam posed was to Wall Street banker's control of
oil markets by proposing to sell oil for Euros instead of good ol'
American dollars.

But he wasn't selling too much oil due to an ongoing UN embargo. Thus, that
would not have been much of a threat. No, this was an opportunity to secure
100 years of oil and profits, and yes, it is wrong to kill people (including
our own) just for the purpose of securing American economic interests. I
never thought the first gulf war (restoring the Kuwait monarcy) was a heroic
achievement either but at least CFR/Trilateral/Bilderburg/Freemason-32 Bush
Senior was smart enough to stay away from Iraq unlike alchoholic/cocaine
addicted Bush Jr..

I was waiting to see what the reaction was from other repugnants and they seemed unhappy about his comment.

One person asked John McCain, 'suppose it was a country in south ameirca that had WMDs?'. John McCain said, 'of course the US would go in there if they had a dictator like sadam and threatened the US with them.'

The only thing, though, is since there is no oil, etc., the US would go in with a plan, do what needs to be done, and get out.

Greenspan was on fox noise channel with neil cavuto. His show is funny because he often comes up with obscure dem causes then has a panel discussion about how bad all dems are, etc.

Also, he has guests that if what they are doing does not agree with WH talking points, neil wears this scowl on his face that the camera switches to often while the guest talks.

Greenspan criticized shrub, repugnants, and dems but neil came back at him with the same old tired lines, aka WH talking points. Of course, Greenspan can easily hold his ground in the face of a mental midget like neil.

Neil could see he was not scoring any points, so, he kept narrowing the scope of his questions until Greenspan could answer yes to shrub policies, then neil filled in the gaps real quick himself and cut to commercial.
